Mrs. Willie C. High, 93, of Raleigh, NC departed this earthly life on Thursday January 28, 2021. Her Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 11:00 AM Saturday February 6, 2021 in the C A Haywood Sr Memorial Chapel, 2415 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC. There will be 30 minutes of visitation and viewing beginning at 10:30 am prior to the start of the service. On Friday afternoon, February 5, 2021 there will be a "walk through" viewing for the public at the funeral home between the hours of 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The committal and interment will be at Carolina Biblical Gardens, 1530 Creech Road in Garner, NC.
Willie Catherine High was born to the Holy union of Robert Jerome Howell and Bettie Willie Howard Howell on the Lord’s Day, Sunday, March 13, 1927 in Wake County, North Carolina.
Willie received her formal education at Washington High School. She graduated from Shaw University in 1949 with Bachelor of Arts Degree. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master’s Degree from New York University.
While at Shaw, Willie was inducted into the Beta Theta Chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. She was also a member of the Beta Lambda Sigma graduate chapter of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc. Willie touched the lives of many students while working with Wake and surrounding public schools. Her latter days brought added joy returning to Shaw as Alumnae, and English Professor and recipient of an honorary degree. She was affectionately known as Dr. High, she was also a Shaw Queen, legend, and Professor of Academic Excellence.
Willie accepted Christ at an early age and was a member of Martin Street Baptist Church. She served with distinction alongside her beloved husband, Deacon Harold Eugene High; they were married 57 years.
Willie Catherine High leaves to share cherished memories, her cousins, caregivers, and a host of other relatives and friends; especially her Shaw Family.
