Willie Ruth Fuller passed away at her home June 20, 2022, and is survived by her daughter, Alice Fuller. She is preceded in death by her mother, Alice Jones Tabron.
A native of Raleigh, Willie Ruth Fuller grew up on downtown’s Fayetteville street in the historic black community of southeast Raleigh. In that community she attended the then segregated Washington High School and was known by classmates by the nickname, Polly.
Willie Ruth put her college education in social work to great use at Dix Hospital, North Carolina’s first psychiatric hospital.
And there is probably where her love of crime thrillers and mystery novels began. Then after a long career in social work, Willie Ruth changed careers and worked at NC State University’s housing department as a coordinator. From NC State University is where she retired. She loved reading her favorite crime novels, chocolate, and singing. As a member of St. Paul A.M.E Church she was very active in the church choirs and was a founding member of St. Paul's New Generation Gospel Choir. Her solo of popular hymn, He Touched Me, was a congregation favorite.
Her service will be held July 7th at 11am at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 402 W. Edenton St., Raleigh, NC. Visitation will be from 10:30-11am, thirty minutes before the funeral. The interment will be held at Carolina Biblical Gardens, 1530 Creech Rd, Garner, NC.
