Pauline Atkinson Gulley was born on April 9, 1927 in Johnston County to Thad Atkinson and Ester Williams. She departed this life on September 26, 2020 at home. Pauline was the last one of the Atkinson siblings.
Pauline attended Johnston County Public Schools. She retired from the State of NC after many years of service.
Pauline married the love of her life Willie Jean Gulley “Buddy,” and to this union seven children were born: Pearline, Willie, Raymond, Lonnie, Maxine, Johnny, and Ricky.
Pauline was a faithful member of St. Amanda Missionary Baptist Church. She was on several axillary ministries, and a member of the young adult choir and later the senior choir. She enjoyed severing the Lord in any capacity that she could. Her greatest service was leading by example, and showing her family the way they should go. She was a member of the church for more than seventy years.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Jean Gulley; parents, Thad Atkinson and Ester Williams; and two sons, Raymond Gulley, and Lonnie Gulley.
Pauline leaves to cherish her memory her two daughters, Pearline Johnson (Roney) of the home, Raleigh and Maxine Bond (Bernard) of Knightdale; three sons, Willie Gulley, Johnny Gulley and Ricky Gulley all of Raleigh; daughter-in-law, Judy Gulley of Raleigh, thirteen grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and host of nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and honorary family.
Funeral service at 12:30 PM Thursday October 1, 2020 at the C.A. Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel preceded by a 12:00 noon visitation. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Viewing from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday September 30, 2020 at Haywood Funeral Home.
