Michael Quintin Scales, Jr. passed away unexpectedly on October 15, 2024. Michael was a 14-year old with a bright, inspiring spirit whose warmth touched everyone fortunate enough to know him. While he left us far too soon, Michael leaves behind a legacy of kindness, accomplishment and love that will remain in our hearts forever.
Born in Raleigh, NC, Michael started Willow Springs High School in Fuquay-Varina, NC this year as an excellent student in advanced classes; proudly maintaining an A-B average. He was also a competitive athlete, playing on the junior varsity football and baseball teams. Michael had passion for sports and his commitment to his team and teammates was evident in every game and practice -so many will miss his sportsmanship, drive, and encouragement of others. Everyone knows that he loved all things San Francisco 49ers!
Beyond his academic and athletic achievements, Michael will be remembered most for his kind heart, joyful personality and genuine care for others. He was truly a special kid, always with a smile to share, laughter to give and thoughtfulness that will be missed by a wide circle of family, friends, classmates, teammates and others who knew him. Though his time with us was short, Michael made a profound impact on all who knew him and his memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to us.
Michael is survived by his parents, LaToya Giles and Michael Scales, Sr., both of Raleigh, NC; his sister, Kierra Scales of Raleigh, NC; his grandfather, Quintin Giles of Danville, VA; his grandmothers, Glenda Giles and Rogernette Scales, both of Martinsville, VA; his godfather, Dwaylon Whitley and a large extended family who will remember him as a young person of exceptional promise and goodness.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM (noon) on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at Poplar Springs Christian Church at 6115 Old Stage Road, Raleigh, NC, preceded by visitation at 11:00 AM. Entombment will follow the service at Carolina Biblical Gardens, 1530 Creech Road, Garner, NC.
