Marie Hall Obituary

Marie Everett Hall departed this life Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Duke Raleigh Hospital. Born June 9, 1927 in Robeson Co., Marie was the 7th child of Mattie and Walter Everett.

Known to many as “Coot” she was raised in Raeford, N.C. where she graduated from Upchurch High School. After graduation she moved to Raleigh here she caught the eye of a young man which later became the love of her life, Delma Hall. During this marriage one child, a daughter, Cynthia Marie was born.

Marie’s love of the Lord and her Church was exceptional. Each day she would read her Bible and she loved to listen to spiritual music. Before her failing health she was a Deaconess at First Baptist Church-Wilmington Street (Raleigh) where she was baptized soon after moving to Raleigh. She also served in many capacities within the community such as the Daughters (Kabala Temple) and Golden Circle (Boyer Assembly).

Marie’s love for her family and their well being was extraordinary. She was engaged in ensuring that everyone was thriving and not failing.

Marie was extremely fond of sewing, decorating, knitting, crocheting, gardening, baking and pickling. She was very artistic and loved to share her skills with others.

Marie prided herself in her work as a Laboratory Technician at Duke University Research Laboratories (Biochemistry Department) where she served for 31 years. She was the first African American to be hired into the Laboratory of Dr. Henry Kamin (1957). She was also included in many research publications attributed to Enzyme research.

Marie is survived by her daughter, Cynthia (Rudolph); Granddaughter, Kristen; Grandson Cody (Jasmine); and many dear and close friends and a multitude of nieces and nephews all of whom she loved so 

 Her Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday May 27,2020 at 1:00 PM in the CA Haywood Sr. Memorial Chapel, 2415 South Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC.  There will be a period of visitation prior to the service beginning at 12:30 PM also in the Chapel.  The Interment will occur on Thursday morning at 11:00 AM at the Raleigh National Cemetery, 501 Rock Quarry Road, Raleigh, NC. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be mad to First Baptist Church, 101 S. Wilmington Street, Raleigh NC 27601.

Please Note:  All in attendance on Wednesday and/or Thursday are asked to a wear face covering or mask and practice "social distancing" of 6 feet during services.
