Lillian Janet Hockaday Lassiter

Lillian Janet Hockaday Lassiter was born August 19, 1920 to Mack and Georgianna Sneed Hockaday in Johnston County, NC. She departed this life Thursday, June 23, 2022 after 101 years of a beautiful life. She was married to Leonard Lassiter, Jr. and to this union was born one son, Leonard LaMonte and one daughter, Lorna Renee.

Lillian was a member of the old Fayetteville Street Baptist Church currently named First Cosmopolitan Baptist Church. She served in various organizations: Raleigh Women's Club, Raleigh City Missionary and member of the Senior Choir #2, faithfully until her health declined.

Lillian enjoyed cooking and baking her favorite dessert, pound cake, along with making jewelry and working with flowers and plants around her home. Her porch was the talk of the town.

Lillian was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Lassiter, Jr.; nine siblings: Mary Hockaday, Fannie Womack, Lelia Debnam, Alma White, Edward Hockaday, Howard Hockaday, William Hockaday, Benjamin Hockaday, and Walter Hockaday.

Lillian is survived by her son, Leonard LaMonte Lassiter, Sr. (Fay), and daughter, Lorna Renee Dunn both of Raleigh, NC; nephew/godson, Braxton Cooper of NJ; one brother-in-law, William Lassiter of Baltimore, MD; two grandsons; two greatgranddaughters; one great-grandson; three great-greatgrandsons; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 Funeral service at 11:00 AM Wednesday June 29, 2022 at the C.A. Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel preceded by a 10:30 AM visitation.   Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens.

All attendees are required to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
