No life can be condensed in totality on a half sheet of paper, and LEROY (loving “Dad”, “Papa”) is certainly no exception. Rather, here is a snapshot of who
LEROY was. He was one of three sons that were gifts from God to Leroy Hardy, Sr. and Annie Ruth Laughinghouse. LEROY’s life was filled with love and purpose the moment it began in Greenville, NC. Leroy grew up in a home where morals, ethics and respect were ingrained and demanded at an early age. In September 1971, Leroy married Evelyn Cannon. They would spend fifty-one years together, and from their union they were blessed with two sons.
LEROY attended Grimesland High School, and was a graduate of the Class of 1961. Continuing his education, LEROY received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from A&T “Aggie Pride” in Greensboro, Class of 1965. While attending college LEROY was a part of the Student NEA, Mathematics Club, United Men’s Congress, A&T College Sunday School, Y.M.C.A. After graduation LEROY taught math at South Ayden High for a number of years; he was also employed as a Commercial Underwriter for Nationwide Insurance Company. LEROY retired in 2004 after many years of service in the education and insurance fields.
LEROY had a kind heart, and his smile was readily noticeable by all who came in contact with him; showed and exhibited respect toward his fellow man and hopefully left the world a better place from his presence here; had a passion for music, reading, fishing and playing his guitar. However, LEROY was most passionate about spending time with his family no matter whether there was a special occasion or not… just being with family was enjoyment and love.
LEROY leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Evelyn C. Hardy; two sons, Aaron D. Hardy, Sr. (wife Stacy deceased)and Trenton Hardy, Sr. (Isolde) Fuquay-Varina NC; six grandchildren, Aaron D. Hardy Jr., Brenton T. Hardy, Italyia L. Hardy, Trenton L. Hardy Jr., Kamryn M. Hardy, and Kennedy M. Hardy; one great-grandchild, Noah J. Hardy; one brother, David Hardy (Lucy) Raleigh NC; five brothers-in-law; seven sisters-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
