Lenzia Payne Thompson

Lenzia Payne Thompson was born on May 17, 1942 to Lena Banks Payne and James Payne in Wake County, NC. Lenzia was fondly called Lucy throughout much of her life.
Lenzia was a graduate of Garner Consolidated School and received an associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from Johnston Community College. She worked at Nationwide Insurance Company for 33 years and Wake County Public School System for over 5 years.

Lenzie came to know the Lord and take Him as a savior at a very early age. Lenzia served in the church as an usher and missionary. She was an active member in her community serving as a member of B.R.O.A.D. along with other organizations.

Lenzia was preceded in death by her mother, Lena Mae Payne and father, James H. Payne.

Lenzia leaves to cherish her memory three children, Alonzo Thompson (Catrina) of Spartanburg, SC; Pamela Thompson of Louisburg, NC and Jennifer Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC; sister, Diane Payne of Raleigh, NC; three brothers, James Payne (Mattie) of Hollister, NC, Huey Payne (Trecinda) of Garner, NC and Carl Payne (Iwana) of Roanoke Rapids, NC; three granddaughters, Jasmin Thompson of High Point, NC, Alyson Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC and Jordhan Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC; grandson, Christopher Thompson of Winston-Salem, NC; “daughter-niece” Tonya Payne of Raleigh, NC; four great uncles, Hughey Payne, Jr. of Landover, MD, Walter Payne of Bowie, MD, Robert Freddie Payne of Boston, MA and Donald Payne of Raleigh, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends

A private, family only, Graveside service and Interment will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday July 30, 2020 at Carolina Biblical Gardens. 

The public Viewing will be from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Wednesday July 29, 2020 at Haywood Funeral Home.
