Larry Bass entered Eternal Life Saturday, February, 27, 2021, at 5:44 p.m.

Larry (born December 22, 1949) the youngest of eight children born to the late Sylvanus and Daisy Daye Bass.  He was reared on the family farm in Rougemont (Person County), NC, and as a member of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church (Rougemont).

Larry earned undergraduate (B.S. - Conservation) and graduate (M.S. - Horticulture) degrees at North Carolina (NC) State University in 1973 and 1980, respectively.  Beginning in 1973, Larry, a career long N.C. Cooperative Extension Service (NCCES) employee, applied his academic credentials, knowledge, and skills as a County Extension Agent in service to farmers.  Larry, after working in Rockingham and Wake Counties, returned to NC State as a professional in 1980.  Larry's 22 years as an Extension Specialist in the Department of of Horticultural Science extended his public service commitments to faculty, farmers, and families.  Larry facilitated the state's Master Gardener Program and authored and edited the program's first resource manual.  Larry's personality and passion for helping others shone brightly on public television as a panelist on UNC-TV's "Almanac Gardener."  Larry planned and supervised state horticultural youth demonstration/presentation contests during 4-H Congress at NC State for many years.  Larry served as National Junior Horticultural Association (NJHA) State Program Chairman.  He led North Carolina's team effort in hosting the NJHA National Convention in 1986 and 2003.

Larry was inducted into the N.C. 4-H Hall of Fame's inaugural class in July 2009.  Three months later, his name was enshrined in the NJHA Hall of Fame.  Larry was honored with exemplary servant  leadership awards by NCCES, NJHA, and Epsilon Sigma Phi (Extension) Fraternity.

Larry came into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church in 1980 as a member of Raleigh's Saint Joseph Parish.  Among 40+ years, Larry served his parish as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, Finance Council Chairman, and Tri-Chairperson of the "25th Anniversary Celebration Committee."  Larry was also a member of the Diocese Of Raleigh Review Board for Child and Youth Protection.

Larry's memory is celebrated by his wife (of 46 years) Joyce Sanders Bass of the home and son Alex Bass of Raleigh.  Larry is also survived by two sisters - Glovenuia Thomas (Sparkhill, NY) and Eunice Gist (Charlotte, NC) - five sisters-in-law, three brothers-in-law, and many devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
