Kelly Dean Carter, age 63 of Raleigh, NC departed this life on May 2, 2022 surrounded by his loving children. He was born to John Michael Carter and Delois Sloan Carter.
Kelly, also known as "K.C." to friends, attended primary and secondary schools in Philadelphia, PA. During his adolescent years he moved to Durham, NC to live with his Uncle Clarence Surles where he indicates he learned to "really play basketball" and "what it really meant to be a man".
He attended Sanderson High School and went on to Job Corp in Bowling Green, Kentucky where he was trained as a Welder. After finishing there, he decided to pursue a career in the U.S. Navy where he was trained as a Marine Mechanic and worked upon the U.S.S. Miller (FF-1091). After his enlistment ended, he returned to Raleigh and worked in various fields until retirement in 2015. Becoming a bit restless, he decided to further his education at Wake Technical Community College where he graduated with an Associate’s degree in Construction Management Technology in 2017. He later casually worked part-time at Amazon in Garner for enjoyment.
Kelly was an avid Philadelphia Eagles fan (but would really watch any sport), a jazz lover, a travel novice, spicy food lover, and possessed a wonderful sense of humor and laugh. He always provided an insightful and honest response to anything asked and seemed to have an interest or knowledge of everything. He simply was a joy to be around. He especially liked spending time and kidding around with his grandchildren.
Kelly is preceded in death by his wife, Felicia Dolline Hill-Carter; Mother, Delois Sloan Carter; and Father, John Michael Carter.
Kelly leaves behind to mourn his passing, his five children; son, Christapher Smith of Greenville, NC; daughters, Stephanie Smith of Youngsville, NC, Tamu Dunston (Christopher) of Newport News, VA, Kia McCormick (Christopher) of Raleigh, NC, and Elicia Carter of Greensboro, NC; brother, Kenneth Carter of Raleigh, NC; sister, Lisa Graham (Kelly) of St. Petersburg, FL; ten grandchildren; six nieces; one nephew, best friend, Michael Bland; and a host of friends and family.
