Janie Louise Jeffries Obituary

Janie L (Woodard) Jeffries, 71, daughter of the late Pearline Ratchford and stepdaughter to the late Charles Ratchford, was born July 22, 1949 in Rock Hill, South Carolina. She departed this life on March 29, 2021 from complications of cancer at REX Hospital in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was educated in Rock Hill, South Carolina where she attended Rock Hill High School and later Ligon High School in Raleigh, North Carolina and studied at Wake Tech Community College with aspirations of becoming a nurse.

She was employed at Memorex-Telex for more than 10 years as a Quality Insurance Inspector where she developed many close friends and relationships both professionally and personally.  In 2010, she later retired from GlaxoSmithKline and in her retirement worked as seasonal employee at Scholastic Books.

As a child, she attended Ebenezer Baptist Church, however, in her later years she was baptized as a Jehovah’s Witness on July 5, 2014.  She was a devout witness even until her passing.

Janie was married for 19 years to Lloyd H. Jeffries, Jr. and had two loving children.  Despite a divorce she was a strong, dedicated, and fun-loving mother.  She had an inherent ability to connect and empathize with people of all walks of life and demonstrated a profound ability to care for others. She possessed such wisdom of which she freely shared with her close friends and family. So many confided in her and looked to her for advice and encouragement.

She was extremely athletic and highly skilled at bowling in which she joined numerous leagues. Janie enjoyed playing many other sports including volleyball and tennis. She shined and was very talented on several softball teams including Square D where she gained the nickname “J-Bird.”

At every opportunity she loved to visit beaches, mountains and small towns or places never traveled.     One of her passions was basking in the sun while planting flowers.  She had a few dogs and was an avid animal lover and occasionally babysat the next door neighbor’s chickens.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two children Tamela “Tammy” Jeffries and V’ger S. Jeffries of Raleigh, North Carolina; Two grandchildren Calill R. Dickerson and Pawaii K. Jeffries-Bullock of Raleigh, North Carolina; four sisters Ms. Gellie “Judy” Hinton, Ms. Mary “Arlene” Cook of Raleigh, North Carolina, Ms. Paulette Potts , Ms. Barbara Simon and one brother, Adrian Woodard of Rock Hill, South Carolina; Niece and best friend Mrs. Cheryl “Vicky” Gordon (Terry) and four other nieces; Ms. Kimberly Cook, Mrs. Shawn “Evette” Lytle (Dewayne), Ms. Latoya “Kieki” Benjamin, and Ms. Tameka “Tee” Woodard;
