James H. Revis
1928-2023James Harvey Revis died July 27, 2023 at the age of 94. Born and raised in Raleigh, he was a 1948 graduate of Washington High. His college career was interrupted by his entry in the US Army during the Korean War, after which he returned to St. Augustine’s College (university) where he graduated in 1955 with a BA degree in English.
There he met Almetta Monk who was to become his wife, a union lasting 60 years. She predeceased him in 2013. He retired from the U.S. Post Office after 28 years and continued an active life of volunteerism until the last year of his life, tutoring reading for students at Fuller Elementary. He is survived by his son, Reginald James Revis (Robbi) of Fuquay-Varina; granddaughters Chelsea Taylor (Sean) of Silver Spring, Md.; Francesca Kamery, III (Glenn) of Apex; great-grandchildren Carlie Price Dan (Caleb) of Silver Spring, Md.; Emerson Monroe Kamery of Apex and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 10:30am at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, 813 Darby Rd., Raleigh. Internment will take place at Carolina Biblical Gardens following services. Arrangements provided by Haywood Funeral Home, Raleigh.
