Gerald Lee Wright, son of Leco Wright and Mae Perry Wright was the first baby born on New Year’s Day in Raleigh, on January 1, 1956. He departed this earthly life on Monday, July 12, 2021.
Gerald attended Wake County Public Schools. After schooling, he enrolled at Job Corp. From there, he enlisted in the United States Army. After serving his country, he received a honorable discharge and relocated to NY. He found employment with a Textile Company in the shipping department. After returning to Raleigh, NC, Gerald worked at Meredith College in the Food Service Department for a short while. His love for the outdoors led him to a number of odd jobs in Landscaping, and he finally obtained a job with “CASA” where he worked with the landscaping crew.
Gerald had a sense of humor and enjoyed laughing. He also loved dancing, even though he couldn’t, but the best thing about that, he thought he could. The family use to tease Gerald about his eating habits because he loved to eat all types of food. “Give it to Mikey he’ll eat anything”. He also loved music and wearing earbuds, listening to his favorite song “Have You Seen Her” by the Chi-lites. To sum up Gerald’s life could be said by a famous quote, he “marched to the beat of a different drummer”. Gerald was unworried, untroubled, blithe, airy, nonchalant, free, casual, relaxed and serene. Always possessing the feelings of nice and light
without stress, worries or heavy obligations.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents Leco and Mae Perry Wright; two brothers, Horace Perry, Sr., and Charles E. Perry; and one nephew, Maurice Anthony Perry.
Gerald leaves to cherish his memories his sister, Sara Perry of Raleigh, NC; brother, Baron Wright (Anita) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; nieces, Mary Howard of Raleigh, NC, Shenieke Soriano (Andre) of NJ, and Crystal Montague (Paul) of Wilson, NC; nephews, Horace “JP” Perry, Jr. of Washington, DC, Kelvin Perry (Marlene) of NJ, and Darius Sweenie of Raleigh, NC; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins, and friends.
