Mrs. Gail Letha Flagg Cromwell, 71, ascended into eternal rest on Thursday, September 29, 2022. Gail was born on November 7, 1950, to the late James Fredrick Flagg and Minnie "Pete" Gaines Flagg in Raleigh, NC. She was the oldest girl of the Flagg siblings along with Fredrick James and Shirley Ann, who both preceded Gail in death.
Gail joined Rush Metropolitan AME Zion Church in her early years where she participated in the Junior Choir under the direction of Mrs. Alda McCullers. She often sang solos since she had a very melodious voice. She also participated in the Buds of Promise while at Rush.
Gail's elementary education was in the Wake County Public School System, beginning at Oberlin Elementary Scholl and ending at Washington School. She was a graduate of J.W. Ligon Jr./Sr. High School, Class of 1968. After high school , Gail attended Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina majoring in Sociology and French. After 2 years at Livingstone College, Gail returned to Raleigh and attended Wake technical Community College and earned a certificate in Medical Laboratory Technology. She began her career at Wake Med Hospital as a phlebotomist. She later moved on to Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals as a Quality Analyst from 1976 until she retired in 2007.
Gail answered the call to bring people to Christ in 2004 and preached her trial sermon at Rush Metropolitan AME Zion Church under the guidance of her Pastor, Rev. Claude E. Willie, III. Gail graduated from Shaw University with honors with a BS in Social Studies and was inducted into the National Honor Society at Shaw University.
Gail married her spiritual mate, Rev. George T. Cromwell, Sr. on August 1, 2009. They lived blissfully until her untimely death. They had a ritual of playing scrabble regularly and enjoyed their time in this game. Gail was her husband's partner and the pastorate and book ministry with husband for 13 years. She was truly a child of God who lived the life. She was unusually anointed and when she preached the Spirit of the Lord inhabited the Praises of his people. In the absence of the pastor at Rush, Gail would teach bible study and enjoyed it immensely. She was a fresh breeze of Spring air.
Gail was always impeccably dressed and was never without her red lipstick. She even made jeans and sneakers look stylist and polished.
Gail is survived by her husband of 13 years, Rev, George T. Cromwell, Sr. of Garner, NC; stepdaughter Michele Davis (Jimmy) of Durham, NC; stepson George T. Cromwell, Jr. of West Virginia; stepdaughter, Jennifer Cromwell of Charlotte, NC; Aunt, Blannie Gaines of Randleman, NC; nephew, Rodney Flagg of Raleigh, NC; niece, Antionette Nicole Thompson of Philadelphia, PA; nephew, Jay Thompson of Philadelphia, PA; great-nephew RaShawn Alston of Tulsa, OK; 6 grandchildren; numerous cousins and other relatives and friends.
Her Celebration of Life Service is planned for Friday October 7, 2022 at 12:00 PM at the Fountain of Raleigh Fellowship, 9621 Six Forks Road, Raleigh, NC 27615. A Visitation will begin prior to the service at 11:30 AM. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC.
