Frances R. Sledge

Frances Rogers Sledge, 93, of Raleigh, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 23, 2026. Born in Raleigh, she was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mary Maude Crawford Rogers; her beloved husband of 52 years, John Milton Sledge; and all of her siblings. She is survived by her son, Jerard Martel Sledge.

Frances was a proud graduate of Hampton University and a retired educator of 40 years in Southern Pines, NC. A faithful member of Trinity AME Zion Church, she served as Minister of Music and in several church auxiliaries. She was active in the community through Alpha Pi Chi Sorority, Alpha Lambda Chapter, NAACP and “Community Helpers.” Frances loved traveling, sports—especially basketball—and spending time with family. Her life was marked by faith, service, and love for others.

A Memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, February 7, 2026 at 1:00 PM with a prior visitation at 12:00 PM in the C A Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel at Haywood Funeral Home, 2415 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
