Dorothy J. Hinton

Mrs Dorothy J. Hinton passed away at Transitions Life Care on December 23, 2021 surrounded by her love ones at the age of 100 .  She was born in New Haven, Conn. on November 24, 1921 to the late Christopher and Carrie Jones.  Dorothy came to Raleigh at an early age.  She was educated at St. Monica's Catholic School, Washington High School, and attended St. Augustine College for three years.  She was later employed with Durham Life Insurance Company for almost twenty years.  In 1966, she married Collins "Joe" Hinton and moved to Auburn, NY and resided there for thirteen years before relocating back to Raleigh.  Dorothy enjoyed cooking, traveling,and reading.  She was a devoted wife and loved God and family.  She will be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her memories: her nephew William Alston (Sharon Brown), two nieces, Sally Alston and Azalyn Jones, three great nieces, Bernice Alston, Monique Johnson, and Tanina Jones, two great nephews, Arthur Jones Jr., and Kevin Phillips, a host of relatives and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents and loving husband of thirty years, two sisters, Bernice Alston and Christine Gaines, two nephews, Wesley Alston and Arthur Jones, one niece Betty Alston.

The Funeral Mass for Mrs. Hinton will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2021 at 10:00 AM at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, 2817 Poole Road, Raleigh, NC 27610. A Visitation with the family will begin at 9:30 AM prior to the Order of Mass.  A public "walk through" viewing will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Haywood Funeral Home, 2415 South Wilmington Street, Raleigh, NC. 27603
