Cornell Burt passed away on Sunday February 9, 2020 at Duke Raleigh Hospital, from a long battle with Cancer. He battled Cancer for nearly 30 years.
Cornell was born on April 4, 1954, in Raleigh NC, to the late Edward James and Beatrice Burt, fourth of five children. He grew up in Raleigh NC, where he attended Wake County Public Schools. While attending Jesse O. Sanderson High School, he was known for his athleticism in both Basketball and Football, his winning personality, and exuberant smile. Cornell attended St. Augustine’s College, which led him to Chavis Community Center. While at Chavis, he played an instrumental role in the lives of the youth who frequented the Center. Cornell was a man of Character and cared a great deal for his family and friends. In his eyes, “Every day was Good”
Cornell was preceded in death by his siblings; James E. Burt (brother), Joyce Weldon (sister), and Anthony Burt (nephew).
Cornell is survived by his sisters; Linda Burt Scott and Paulette Burt, Bennie Weldon (nephew), Alicia Weldon (niece), William Scott (nephew), Roxie Burt (niece), Ariel Burt (niece), and Romel Burt (nephew), Carol Young Smith, Ronald Smith, Eloise Snow (cousins), a Special Friend Debra Faison and a host of great nieces, nephews and family and friends.
Funeral service at 1:00 PM Sunday, February 16, 2020 at the C.A. Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel preceded by an 12:30 AM visitation. Interment at 11:00 AM Monday, February 17, 2020 at Carolina Biblical Gardens. Viewing from 12:00 - 6:00 PM Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Haywood Funeral Home.
