Corine Herscelia (Avery) Simms

Ms. Corine Herscelia Simms, 83, of 4201 Stoneford Drive, Raleigh, NC departed this earthly life on Monday April 20, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

She was married to the late Lester Simms, Jr., and employed for many years making baby bags at a manufacturing firm until her retirement.  She lovingly raised her family including her family nieces and nephews. She was a member  Good Samaritan Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lester Simms, Jr., parents, James and Norine H. Avery, sister Barbara Ann Simms, and brothers Jessie Joe Louis Avery and Louis W. Avery.

Survivors: sons, David Simms of Tampa, FL, Lester Earl Simms of Raleigh, NC and Nathaniel Benton, Sr. of Benson, NC; daughters Danette Simms-Coley (Lance) of Raleigh, NC, Diana Simms of Raleigh, NC: grandchildren, Drevon Simms of Raleigh, NC, Tiara Monique Cummings of Raleigh, NC, Nathaniel Benton, Jr. of SC, and Yasmin Benton of Charlotte, NC; great grandchildren Donny Barnes of Raleigh, NC, and Dreshawn Cummings of Raleigh, NC; sisters Mary Avery of Raleigh, NC, Betty Ann Webster of Raleigh, NC, Katie Smith of Raleigh, NC, and Eliza Jane Wood of Brooklyn, NY and a host of favorite nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends.

Funeral service at 12:00 noon Friday May 1, 2020 at the C.A. Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel preceded by an 11:30 AM visitation.  Interment will follow at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
