Betty Barnett Obituary

Mrs. Betty Mae Barnett, 86, departed this earthly life on Tuesday, March 17, 2020.  Betty Mae (Myers) Barnett was born September 25, 1933, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late Leola and Benjamin Myers.  She was the youngest of (6) six children.

Betty was educated in the public schools of Savannah Chatham County Public School System (SCCPSS), graduating from Alfred Ely Beach High School in 1950.

As an adventurous young woman, Betty would often migrate from Savannah to Philadelphia in search of a future career. Finally, she made the mature decision to relocate and join her older siblings, Gladys and Ernest, in the state of New York.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Herman A. Barnett.  As a result of this union, one son was born.

Betty lived a beaming example of a Christian. She would give to anyone in need.  To know her was to love her, for her kindness and generosity superseded that of others.  For many years, Betty worked at Bellevue Hospital as a CNA and Harlem Hospital as a Hospital Care Investigator, continuing to extend her passionate spirit of giving and helping others. She often prayed that God would grant her the strength to help anyone that came her way with a need.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, friend, sibling, and caretaker. Above all, her Christianity and her faith was a significant part of Betty's life. Her Christian experience started at Tremont Temple Baptist Church in Savannah, Georgia. Then she continued to pursue her Christian journey at Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church in Bronx New York until her health began to decline, and she relocated to Garner, North Carolina.  While at Gethsemane, she served faithfully as a Trustee, Usher, Missionary, and on the Pastor's Aide Committee.

Betty quietly made a glorious transition to Heaven early Tuesday morning, March 17, 2020, following a prolonged illness.  She was 86 years old.  Betty was preceded in death by her husband, her sisters; Laura Myers Graham, and Gladys Myers Green, her brothers; Junior Myers, Ernest Myers, and James Myers.

Betty is survived by her loving, dedicated, and devoted son, Herman Barnett Jr. of Garner, North Carolina, grandson; Zachery Barnett of Huntsville, Alabama, granddaughter; Sydeny Barnett of Morrisville, North Carolina, nephews; Lawrence Graham (Marie), Tommy (Mary) Graham, and James Benjamin Myers all of Savannah, Georgia, Jerome Myers of New York, New York, neices; Najia (Ramon) Barboa of Savannah, Georgia, Rhonda Myers, and Lisa Myers all of New York, New York, cousins; Bernita Turner of Philadelpha, Naomi Cook New York, New York, Gloria Cook of New York, New York, Jessie Phelp of Hamstead, New York, Cleo Pratt of Hamstead, New York, Joyce Tabon of Delaware, Hazel Tabon, Freddy Louis Tabon, all of Bronx, New York, Ronnie Tabon of Broadway, North Carolina, Charles Tabon of Brookyln, New York, and Reynaldo Tabon of New York, New York, and sisters-in-law; Eliza Giles of Bronx, New York and Alfreda W.
