Annie Lee King-Street Obituary

Very quietly and peacefully on July 22, 2021, Almighty God in the infinite wisdom, gently closed the eyes of
our beloved Annie Lee King-Street and she entered into her eternal rest.

Annie Lee King-Street, the daughter of the late James Woodard Wynne and the late Valena Ganiey
Wynne, was born on September 10, 1940, in Raleigh, North Carolina. She attended the North Carolina
Public Schools. Annie Lee continued her education at Louisiana State University where she studied
Early Childhood Education. Upon her return to North Carolina, she attended Saint Augustine University
where she earned her Bachelor of Arts Degree with honors in Early Childhood Education. She
continued her studies by attending North Carolina Central University where she earned her Master of Arts
Degree majoring in Early Childhood Education and a minor in Reading and Sociology. She did her Thesis
Research on The Effects of Working Mothers on Social Behavior and Academic Achievement on a select
group of children in grades kindergarten through fifth. She decided to continue her studies and attended
North Carolina Central University earning her Certification in School Administrator-Principal.

Annie Lee King-Street’s professional work was a reflection of her love for children and education. She
began her professional career as a classroom teacher at Vena Wilburn Elementary School, teaching
grades Kindergarten, first through Second from 1970 – 1987. She moved on as a Teacher Assessor
for Wake County Public Schools from 1987 – 1988. She continued her professional career as Assistant
Principal at Whitley Middle School from 1988 – 1989 as well as Assistant Principal at Penny Road
Elementary School from 1989 – 1992 were she ended her professional career as the Principal of Penny
Road Elementary School from January 23, 1992, until her retirement.

Annie Lee was a faithful member of Davie Street Presbyterian Church, beginning with her christening and
ending at death. She served in numerous capacities within the church. She served as a Sunday school
teacher, trustee, a member of the Prestige Club where she held the title of president for a period of time.
Annie Lee was a long-standing member of the Golden Eagles, Davie Street Presbyterian Women’s Circle
ll, a member of the Chancellor Choir and spearheaded the Davie Street Presbyterian Church Summer Enrichment
Program. She served as the financial secretary for many years and served a an Elder within the
church. Annie Lee was honored as Davie Street Presbyterian Church Women of The Year. She was chosen
by the Presbytery of New Hope to proudly represent Davie Street Presbyterian Church as the Outstanding
Older Adult of the year.

Annie Lee was a longtime member of the National Education Association and the North Carolina Association
of Educators where she served tirelessly for educators across the state of North Carolina. She was a devoted
member of the Las Amigos Club, and a member of Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority,Inc.

Annie Lee King-Street leaves to mourn her passing; daughters, Jacquelyn Johnson of Sanford, North Carolina,
Carol Morgan (Kenneth) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Dr. Sharon Bullock (Darrius) of Charlotte, North Carolina;
son, Anthony Johnson (Barbara) of McLeansville, North Carolina; sisters, Mabel W. Steele and Catherine R.
Davis, both of Knightdale, North Carolina; grandchildren, Preston Gleeton, Nicole Gleeton, Christina Gordon,
Kimberly Morgan, Caleb Morgan, Cameron Morgan, Donovan Bullock, Danial Bullock; seven great grands,
and several nieces and nephews, along with a host of family and friends.
“There’s an open gate at the end of the road, through which each must go alone, and there is a light we
cannot see our father claims his own. Beyond the gate your loved one finds happiness and rest and there
is comfort in the thought that a loving God knows best.:


Funeral service at 1:00 PM Tuesday July 27, 2021 at the C.A. Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel preceded by a 12:30 PM visitation.  Interment will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery.  Viewing from 2:00 - 8:00 PM Monday July 26, 2021 at Haywood Funeral Home.
