Alberta J. (Johnson) Leach

Alberta Johnson Leach, BELOVED wife, mama, grandma, sister, aunt, cousin and friend peacefully exchanged her earthly life on July 6, 2020 at Wake Medical Hospital in Raleigh, NC.

Albert affectionately known by her family as “Bert” or “Sis” was born October 2, 1937, was the second born of six children to Willie and Lottie Johnson.
Alberta was a 1955 graduate of Garner Consolidated High School. There she exceled in her studies and was a surprisingly good basketball player. After graduation like many others during that time, Alberta began her journey in the school of life. Opportunities for young blacks was not as promising as it is today but she found work in various capacities but most important to her was making a home memorable, loving and safe for her family while still holding down a part-time job as a substitute cafeteria worker in the Wake County School System.

Alberta was a fun good natured person who had a stubborn streak like the rest of her siblings. You would come to realize that that stubborn streak was their way of being independent to the end. She was a no-nonsense, serious, didn’t want to bother anyone type of person who if you got to know her, you would fall in love with instantly. Someone who was as beautiful outside as she was inside.

Alberta began her Christian journey at Wake Baptist Grove Church at an early age. In later years she worshipped at Solid Rock Ministries International in Garner, NC. She loved the Lord and knew that would carry her through any challenges life would bring her way. Her unselfish love for her family was extraordinary. A caring person who always had a listening ear for anyone for all. Alberta enjoyed flower gardening, dressing nice, the holidays, decorating her home, singing, talking on the phone and good people.

Alberta’s departure has caused many saddened hearts. She leaves to cherish her memory, her loving husband of 60 years Andrew Leach of the home; daughter, Sharon L. Riddick (Tony) of Raleigh, NC; sons, Gregory F. Leach (Priscilla) of Henderson, NC, and Michael A. Leach (friend Lorye) of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Clementine J. McAllister (Fred) and Barbara J. Daughtry both of Garner, NC; brother, Robert Johnson (Marie) of Raleigh, NC; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Johnson of Raleigh, NC and Cozy Tillman of Steelton, PA; three grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Chante, Jabari, and adopted grandson, Prodigy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and special family friend, Sara Lee.
Alberta was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lottie Cooke Johnson; two brothers, James O. Johnson and Arthur L. Johnson; brother-in-law, Willard Daughtry; four sisters-in-law, Martha Johnson, Oma Johnson, Louise Dunn and Velma Crowner.

Funeral service at 3:00 PM Saturday July 11, 2020 at the C.A. Haywood, Sr. Memorial Chapel preceded by a 2:30 PM visitation.  Interment will take place at 11:30 AM Monday July 13, 2020 at Carolina Biblical Gardens.
