Katie L. Murphy

Ms. Katie L. Murphy, 90, of Raleigh, NC departed this earthly life on Thursday September 5, 2019.  The oldest child of James and Gertrude Murphy, she was born on Setember 1, 1929 in Pennsylvania.  She moved to Raleigh at a young age.  She worked at St. Agnes Hospital and WakeMed, retiring from WakeMed in 1991.

Katie is survived by her daughters, Norma Jean Dunn of Garner, NC, Gladys Hinton of Raleigh, NC; John Smith of Wendell, NC; granddaughters; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, family members and friends.

Katie enjoyed listening to spirituals, reading, and helping others.  She was a very understanding and compassionate person and she will be truly missed.

Her burial will take place at 11:00 AM Tuesday September 10, 2019 at Carolina Biblical Gardens.  A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday September 28, 2019 at Haywood Funeral Home at 11:00 AM.
