Julia (Reeves) Smith

Julia Reeves Smith, 104 of Raleigh departed this earthly life on Wednesday, August 21, 2019. The seventh child of Henry and Eliza Coles Reeves, she was born on March 6, 1915 in Hopkins, SC. After graduating from St. Augustine's College (University) in 1937 with a degree in nursing, she practiced her chosen profession in Wilmington, NC and St. Augustine, FL before returning to Raleigh where she worked at St. Agnes Hospital until it closed in 1961. She continued her nursing career at Wake Medical Center ( now WakeMed ) until her retirement.

Julia is survived by her daughter Fabette Smith of the home; her sisters Marie Bowen of Trenton, NJ and Mary Whitley of Raleigh, NC; her sister-in-law Bernice Reeves of Trenton, NJ; and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, family members and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Martin Street Baptist church, 1001 E. Martin Street, Raleigh, NC at 11:30 AM preceded by a 11:00 AM visitation. Interment takes place at Carolina Biblical Gardens.

Public viewing will take place on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at Haywood Funeral Home from 2-8 PM.
